Princeton Borough, along with Princeton Township, entered into the Association’s Program for Municipal Excellence in March 2005. Together, the Borough and Township form a unique community: a regional center for business, education and the arts, with a rich history and culture. Princeton has taken a regional approach to environmental and land use planning, with the Borough and Township using a Regional Planning Board and a Joint Environmental Commission, while retaining their discrete governing bodies to implement each municipality’s individual Master Plans.
The Princeton community has been proactive and innovative in land use planning to achieve the community goal of both protecting natural resources and satisfying competing development demands. The community has preserved 25% of its total land area as open space.
A full description of the work completed in Princeton can be found in the Princeton Municipal Assessment Report. This report is an informal planning document for municipal officials to use now and into the future. It lays out options to enhance programs or policies already on the books in Princeton Borough and highlights work completed there.
