Located in the eastern portion of Somerset County, Franklin Township embodies a diversity of people and places.  The township states its vision for the community as follows, “Residents of the Township of Franklin will live and thrive in a community that values community pride and spirit, celebrates diversity and creates an environment that provides opportunities for all people so that they develop as healthy, caring, positive, educated and responsible members of the community.” The Township’s website is very informative and up to date, please refer to the website for more information on programs of interest to you.

Some of Franklin’s accomplishments include:

  • Putting Stream Corridor Protection and Open Space Preservation to work.  Both are high on the Township’s list of priorities for protection.
  • Protecting the historic hamlets throughout the township.
  • Maintianing status as a Tree City
  • Enhancing urban communities by implementing programs such as the Renaissance 2000 project and by encouraging the mixing of lifestyles to create a diverse and healthy community.

A full description of the work completed in Franklin Township can be found in Franklin Township’s Municipal Assessment report entitled “Taking the Next Step”.  This report is a document for municipal officials to use now and into the future.  It lays out options to enhance programs or policies already on the books in Franklin Township and highlights work completed in the township.  Go to the full report to read about the 13 subjects assessed in the township or for a quick glimpse of the report you can also view the Executive Summary.
