About Us

Home > About Us

"The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy,
and after all our most pleasing responsibility.
To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope."

- Wendell Berry

Hopewell The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association is a member supported non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of the natural environment in the 265-square mile region drained by Stony Brook and the Millstone River. We are committed to intelligent and informed land use decision making, the protection of water quality and supply, and the improvement of the community's awareness of environmental issues.

Our education department aims to foster personal connections with the natural environment while promoting a sense of stewardship. Our seasonally changing programs offer opportunities for children, families, and adults to experience the wonder of nature. Our teacher workshops provide opportunities for educators to refresh their lesson plans and rejuvenate their own passion for environmental education.

The Association's 860-acre nature reserve is one example of our commitment to land stewardship. We manage the reserve for the purposes of education, enjoyment, research and preservation. The reserve's 14 miles of hiking trails offer opportunities to witness the changing seasons, submerge in the serenity of the forests, and explore the wonders of nature and the wildlife that call our reserve home.

The Association also strives to support and work cooperatively with those who live, work, and play in the 26 neighboring municipalities located within the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed. The Association offers a variety of programs that focus on managing a watershed to assess and improve water quality, building partnerships with municipal leaders to support proactive planning, and providing networking opportunities for citizens and watershed organizations alike.

We invite you to learn more about what we offer by exploring our website, and by visiting us on our reserve located in Hopewell Township in central New Jersey.
